HPM America Introducing New Wind Turbines
July 1, 2009
At NPE (National Plastics Exhibition) 2009 in Chicago, HPM America unveiled its newest product line – wind turbines.
In introducing this new line of wind turbines HPM America will be addressing the needs of homeowners, businesses, schools and universities, governmental institutions and other applications. The new wind turbines from HPM America will be available from a small 1kW unit to 1MW.
The new HPM wind turbines will incorporate Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) technology which achieves more efficient wind power generation and is able to produce more power at lower wind speeds due to its coreless technology. The ability of HPM generators to eliminate traditional cogging issues makes it the ideal candidate for wind turbine applications.
This new technology eliminates the need for a gearbox to be used as part of the wind turbine drive train thereby minimizing down time and reducing maintenance costs over the life of the system.
HPM America manufactures and supplies extrusion systems, injection molding machines and die casting equipment along with providing contract manufacturing from its headquarters in Mount Gilead Ohio. Founded in 1877, HPM offers equipment remanufacturing, and aftermarket parts and services through its internal aftermarket group.

Wind Means New Business for Wodin
June 20, 2009
Penetrating new markets is a timely business strategy in this downturn, but it's nothing new to Wodin, Inc, a 40-year old producer of forged components. President Grant Murphy has been working to steer his company into the wind industry for several years, and this past month they achieved a major corporate goal with the announcement of his contract to provide main shafts for Northern Power, America's premier manufacturer of commercial-scale wind turbines.
"We're a forging job shop of 36 employees capable of small-to-medium sized runs, and this new order gives us the opportunity to expand employment," Murphy explained. "Wind enables us to be far more balanced between the industries we serve." Those currently include military, oil, and diesel electrical generators.
Wodin, which is an upset forge house specializing in shaft-type forgings from ½ to 7 inches in diameter and up to 1000 pounds operating in Bedford, OH, was recently featured in FORGE Magazine.
